As a native to Colorado, Esther served as site coordinator for the Department of Human Services Food Stamp Office 9Health Fair for three years. During those three years, she also participated in the 9Health Fair screenings and learned she had high cholesterol and high triglycerides. Since then, she has worked with her primary care provider to manage these concerns. Esther now sits on the 9Health Fair Community Involvement Committee (CIC). Esther says her favorite thing about 9Health Fair is that it is for everybody, whether you have insurance or not.

Seven months after her father passed away from a heart attack, Mickie went to a 9Health Fair. Her blood screening results indicated that her cholesterol levels were high. She went to her doctor who referred her to a cardiologist. An angiogram showed a partial blockage in her artery. Since then, she has made important changes in her life – she is on medication, receives regular checkups and goes to 9Health Fair every year - except last year to attend her son’s wedding! She believes 9Health Fair helped save her life and prevented her from suffering a heart attack like her father.

COMMUNITY Fairs

Every Spring, people from around the state come together to deliver 9Health Fair's free and low-cost health awareness and educational screenings. Because of this volunteerism, over 100,000 lives are impacted annually. Since 1980, 9Health Fair has affected 1.7 million lives.

Because our mission promotes health awareness and encourages individuals to assume responsibility for their own health, we collaborate with health screening partners and organizations around the state to provide comprehensive health screenings and interactive educational centers at all 9Health Fair sites. This information helps empower participants to become more aware of, and responsible for, their health.

About three to six weeks after a 9Health Fair visit, participants receive detailed information about their results, along with reminders to seek complete diagnosis and treatment from their primary care physician. Participants with critical or alert health results will receive a phone call within 72 hours of their 9Health Fair visit from a volunteer Registered Nurse and/or physician instructing them to seek immediate medical attention.
